Dualities and Pluralities video at the 2023 Performing Media Festival
Dualities and Pluralities, a short video from the States of Being series, will be shown at the South Bend Museum of Art in South Bend, Indiana, from January 14 – March 19, 2023, as part of the 2023 Performing Media Festival, an annual showcase of audio-visual performance works.

Dualities and Pluralities explores relationships between the self and others. Through their individual and partnered movements, dancers Shara Weaver and Elizabeth Winkelaar navigate changing environments and contrasting states of being within Cheryl Pagurek’s interactive video and audio installation. Often touching, sometimes apart, differentiated yet always connected, they create expressive compositions of positive and negative shapes using their bodies and the spaces between them, while building a unique soundscape. The video and music components are mapped spatially to respond to participants’ movements. Composer Jesse Stewart created the musical tracks in the installation. Jean-Claude Batista developed the installation’s custom software.
