OPENING : Thursday, February 29 from 6 to 8 pm with dance performance by Marguerite Ingenito
Art-image is pleased to welcome Ottawa artist Cheryl Pagurek with her exhibition States of Being. Starting February 29, discover how the artist reimagines expressive self-representation in the internet age. The interactive installation’s video and music components are mapped spatially to respond to peoples’ movements. Instead of the online identities that we craft and perform via social media platforms, avatars, and video calls, States of Being offers an alternative, experiential and experimental mode to enact virtual creations of ourselves. Straddling both real and digital worlds, the installation expands the artistic potential of interactivity by inviting dancers and the public to engage with it.
Composer Jesse Stewart contributed the musical tracks in the installation.

VERNISSAGE : Le jeudi 29 février de 18h à 20h. Performance de Marguerite Ingenito
Le centre d’exposition Art-image est heureux d’accueillir l’artiste ottavienne Cheryl Pagurek avec son exposition États d’être. Dès le 29 février prochain, découvrez comment l’artiste réimagine la représentation expressive de soi à l’ère d’Internet. L’installation interactive, regroupant des composantes vidéos et musicales, est cartographiée dans l’espace afin de répondre aux mouvements des personnes. Au lieu des identités en ligne que nous créons et exécutons via les plateformes de médias sociaux, les avatars et les appels vidéo, États d’être propose un mode alternatif, expérientiel et expérimental pour mettre en œuvre des créations virtuelles de nous-mêmes. À cheval entre les mondes réels et numériques, l’installation élargit le potentiel artistique de l’interactivité en invitant les danseurs et le public à s’y impliquer.
Le compositeur Jesse Stewart a contribué les pistes musicales de l’installation.
